Manager, Workplace Safety – San Francisco, CA

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing the administration of occupational safety, health, and environmental processes. Plans, organizes, implements, measures and evaluates corporate performance and programs which maximize EHS objectives. Develop and implement programs designed to ensure conformance to applicable federal, state, local standards related to environmental compliance, occupational health and safety (I.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, etc.). Ensure that company policies and procedures are followed by planning and administering health and safety programs designed to reduce the risk of occupational injury, vehicle incidents, minimize business disruption and damage of property. Develop and deliver training to ensure knowledge of applicable standards and regulatory requirements, as well as safe driving and work habits.

Primary Responsibilities:

– Analyze the work environment and develop EHS programs designed to control, eliminate, and prevent occupational disease and/or injury caused by physical, chemical, biological agents or ergonomic factors.

– Perform ergonomic evaluations and training in order to reduce musculoskeletal injuries.

– Design and implement facility emergency evacuation planes as well as performing annual facility evacuation drills.

– Promote, administer and deliver safety and health related training to all departments’ in compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA, DOT, and EPA rules and regulations. This includes developing curriculum, scheduling sessions and evaluating student performance.

– Provide technical support to front line leadership on matters related to occupational safety, environmental compliance, and loss prevention.

– Support the periodic observations of field employees for detecting possible safety violations and/or compliance (safety audits, ladder inspections, vehicle inspections etc.) In partnership with Facilities and Operations Leadership, also supports the periodic inspections of any Comcast facilities to detect potential hazards. (I.e. GAP audits, loss prevention, ergonomics, etc.) in order to enforce adherence to laws, regulations and Comcast standards governing occupational safety and environmental compliance.

– Assist with the collection and submission of data required to satisfy environmental permit and reporting requirements (I.e. Air Permit reports, Tier II, etc.).

– Prepare reports and loss analysis for use by Comcast personnel and regulatory agencies.

– Develop and manage initiatives to promote a productive safety culture, including programs designed to increase employee involvement, education, and recognition.

– Collect and interpret injury and vehicle crash data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as system failure, human error, incomplete or faulty decision-making, or a weakness in existing policies or practices or regulations.

– Contribute to local or regional Incident Review Teams in the event of a reported incident. Investigates or arranges for all accidents and near misses to be investigated. Prepares report of findings, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and implement approved course of action.

– Liaison to regulatory agencies on matters related to reporting and/or investigating compliance concerns.

– Develop and deliver regulatory required training related to health, environmental, and safety.

– Submit safety reports (as needed), injury and vehicle reports, incident review team reports, safety committee minutes, “How’s My Driving” reports, OSHA reports and any applicable security reports.

– Consults, analyzes, and recommends safe work methods to management relative to current and new programs and business.

– Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

– Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

– Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

– Position is 40% Safety / 35% Health / 20% Environmental / 5% Industrial Hygiene

Job Specifications:

– Bachelor’s degree related to environmental health and safety, business administration, organizational development, or related discipline is preferred. Any one or a combination of the following certifications is preferred and may contribute to the work experience requirements: CSP, ASP, OHST, or equivalent industry recognized certification.

Additional Qualifications:

– Knowledge and application of environmental, health and safety regulations and familiarity with EHS regulatory agencies’ protocols.

– Skilled in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA, MUTCD, and EPA standards

– Must be able to perform inspections of warehouses, head ends, roadside work sites, call centers, and vehicles that involve walking throughout the work areas and climbing steps.

– Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills. Ability to address and solve EHS issues from a universal perspective.

– Must be able to coach, teach, counsel, and be comfortable speaking to groups.

– Must be able to work independently without day-to-day supervision.

– Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols and/or procedures.

– Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions; ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

– Must be an independent self-motivated individual who has the ability to work on various projects, at varying degrees of progress with accompanying stress.


– Travel 75% within assigned territory; up to 10% outside assigned territory
